Traditionally, carbon steel is the preferred choice of material used for water injection and disposal pipelines due to its low cost and ease of construction. A downside of carbon steel pipes is the impact of corrosion on their integrity and lifetime. To mitigate corrosion, coatings are used for internal protection backed up and supplemented with corrosion inhibitors. In cases where coatings are not suitable, carbon steel pipes are replaced with a corrosion resistant alloy (CRA), which are much more expensive.

Hence, thermoplastic linings provide a cost-effective solution to these corrosion problems, if properly selected and designed. Liners arrest corrosion in existing pipelines and enable the use of carbon steel pipes without the need for corrosion allowance or utilizing high doses of corrosion inhibitors.

This workshop will discuss selection of lining material, liner design process and installation for offshore and onshore application. This workshop aims to familiarize the audience with process steps undertaken to ensure appropriate design to ensure long trouble-free service life of lining systems.

The workshop will provide insight about lining application and its uses to control internal corrosion. This workshop is intended for pipelines’ owners/operators, regulators and service providers.

RTP, a nonmetallic piping product can play an important role to combat corrosion and improved project schedule. This workshop has been segregated into two segments to cover hydrocarbon and water applications. In the 1st segment, selection of material, design and qualification of RTP in hydrocarbon application will be discussed. It will also include topic related to storage, handling and installation of RTP in gulf terrain.

In the 2nd segment of this workshop, application of RTP in high pressure up to 3000 psig in water injection and disposal will be discussed. A brief discussion regarding utilization of steel reinforced RTP in subsea water injection application will be discussed as well.

This workshop is intended for the pipeline owners/operators, regulators, and service providers. At the end of this workshop the participants are anticipated to be familiarized with the application, design and construction of RTP in oil and gas sector.

This workshop will introduce strategies to control internal corrosion and discuss how to use them in making design and maintenance decisions to control internal corrosion. The strategies include 25+ international standards and best practices developed by NACE International (including ICDAs), ASTM International, and Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP).

The workshop will benefit those who need to make design, integrity, operational and maintenance decisions to control internal corrosion. This includes pipeline owners/ operators, regulators, and service providers.

AAt the end of the workshop, the participants will become experts on strategies to assess the status of internal corrosion and strategies to reduce the risk of internal corrosion. Effective use of these strategies has reduced the number of incidences from 3 per 1,000 kilometers of pipelines in 1995 to less than 0.5 incidences per 1,000 kilometers of pipelines in 2015.

Attendees will be provided with 25 Key Performance Indicator (KPI) questionnaire. (The 25 KPIs are used to evaluate implementation of internal corrosion strategies).

Pipelines and other carbon steel assets in the Oil & Gas Industry that are exposed to water, mixed phases, or water-laden hydrocarbons are highly susceptible to microbially influenced corrosion (MIC). This process, caused by either direct or indirect attack of metallic iron by microorganisms, causes costly damage to carbon steel assets and, in some cases, failure of the asset altogether. MIC has been estimated to account for 10-20% of corrosion damage to steel oilfield assets. This workshop will give an overview of MIC in the Oil & Gas Industry along with reviewing the common techniques used to monitor for and control the biofilms associated with MIC.

Cathodic protection design and monitoring for well casings is one of the most challenging tasks since there is no way one could fully control the current distribution along the well casing.

This work shop will elaborate on the following topics:

  • E log I surveys which have reported limited success and low precision
  • Corrosion Protection Evaluation Tool (CPET) logging which are currently being used to determine the exact CP current requirement for new well/field with higher precision.
  • As Saudi Aramco has conducted more than 10 CPET logs for onshore wells. This workshop will stress the need for logging, detail how the CPET tool works and then walk the workshop participants thru the detailed mechanism of downhole logging
  • Finally, three case studies of previous logs will be discussed in full detail.
