The Role of Corrosion Professionals and Corrosion Societies in Corrosion Management and Asset Integrity

Today we are challenged to maintain asset integrity in order to meet the market demands of production rates, return on investments, shareholders return, and safeguarding the environment. Major failures have occurred that has effected the future of companies, the wellbeing of countries and resulted in changes in regulations. Many of these failures could have been prevented but others have challenged the corrosion and materials professionals and have led us to reflect on our ability to anticipate the impact of corrosion and environmental stress cracking.

We all know that people are the heart of effective asset integrity management. People can make effective asset integrity happen with their proactive approach, flexibility and the quick response. Loss of integrity due to corrosion could happen if improper or unsafe design . Technical societies play a major role in advancing asset integrity through dissemination of knowledge, tackling of emerging issues, development and training of professionals and development of standards to safeguard against loss of transfer of knowledge.
